Rise Above Yourself

"An individual has not started living until he can rise above the narrow confines of his individualistic concerns to the broader concerns of all humanity." ~ Martin Luther King, Jr.

Each of us live our early life in the narrow vision of who we are and what we can do for ourselves. I am unable to tell you if it is a biological or psychological thing. What I can say is that I find it a natural progression all of us take in life.

After some amount of time, as the years pass, it becomes old thinking only about ourselves. Part of our maturing process in life is to get up above our own ego.

Or in other words, get out of your own way.

A point is reached in life where we find life is more about others. We begin to serve and help others. In turn, it then truly becomes about you. Some call it "getting over yourself."

I call it becoming a part of life, of the bigger world.

When you expand beyond your own life, your world grows in greater proportion. So much more will unfold before you, so much more will come back to you when you rise above yourself.

Rise above yourself and find a greater life in return.

Getting Out

"Every great work, every great accomplishment, has been brought into manifestation through holding to the vision, and often just before the big achievement comes apparent failure and discouragement." - Florence Scovel Shinn

Without a vision for what you want to accomplish in life, you will forever live life on a treadmill.

You will be constantly walking and running in place.

Even if you try to run faster, you remain in the same place.

With a vision for tomorrow and the attitude to accompany it, you can break loose.

You will move out into a new world and towards your vision.

Create and pursue your vision.

Walk or run on the path laid out before you and leave the treadmill behind.

Yes You Can

"The most authentic thing about us is our capacity to create, to overcome, to endure, to transform, to love and to be greater than our suffering." - Ben Okri

Nick Vujicic was born with no arms or legs. But he has taken his life beyond the physical challenge and made a difference in the lives of others.

There are so many things that could pull us down in life.

There are things that have tripped us up, knocked us down and having you believe there is no way of getting back up.

It can be overcome, you can rise again and carry forward. As Nick says, it does not matter how you do it or even how long it takes you. What matters is that you do it and that you finish strong.

Pick yourself up, dust off the pain of self-doubt and move forward.

Keep moving and finish strong.

Imperfect Perfection

Ring the bells that still can ring. Forget your perfect offering. There is a crack in everything. That's how the light gets in.” ― Leonard Cohen

The day will end with accomplishment and with disappointment.

It is a mixture of circumstance that impacts everything we do in life. We attempt to be perfect through all of that circumstance. The disappointment we feel allows the darkness to surround us even more. Yet the light can not be kept out.

Accept that you are perfect within all of your imperfection. The light will do the rest.
