Life By Example

He that gives good advice, builds with one hand; he that gives good counsel and example, builds with both; but he that gives good admonition and bad example, builds with one hand and pulls down with the other.” - Francis Bacon, Sr. (English Lawyer and Philosopher 1561-1626)

Most everything we we do in life can be seen by those who surround us. People on the street watching you walk by. Those in line at the grocery store as you check out. The person in the car behind you in traffic. Your friends, spouse, and children all see your actions.

People learn by watching what you do, what you say and what they see.

It may seem unfair that our every movement and word can have an effect on others. It would seem unfair that you are probably getting judged like the cover of a book. But it happens and your every action is on display.

Think about our society of celebrity and the complaints those in the spotlight of public visibility express. Many would say that because one lives in the public spotlight (celebrities, politicians, etc), that they should expect the attention they receive.

Yet each of us live on one level or another of public spotlight.

The attention we draw from others may be smaller, but it is still one that can have impact on those who see us daily. And knowing our actions and words have impact, it becomes a choice for us if that impact will be a positive or negative one upon others.

Choose a life which exhibits the positive. Choose a life that will teach others a better way to live. Give others the best of you which in turn helps them to improve their own lives.

Life by example, life by positive examples, life for the better.

Wrangling Life

Cowboy Roping Cow by G.A. Randall

Men will wrangle for religion, write for it, fight for it, die for it;
anything but live for it
” ~ Charles Caleb Colton

Every day you hear and read the discussions ranging over many subjects covering the spectrum of life. People will argue and try to convince others about those things important to them. On and on it goes, the dance of debate.

The quote from Charles Colton is quite applicable and not only to one's religion but everything in life. It serves as a reminder to me of how I should live my life. While I write books, gives speeches, argue my point; it is truly by living a good life I will be most convincing.

How you live your life reflects your beliefs more than all the words you speak. Now that I have written and tried to convince you with these words, I will head out and live those words. I know you will do the same.

Try to be a living example of what is good in this life. None of us, including myself are perfect. But we can try to live a good life and with that example, live for it.

Your Example

"Example isn't another way to teach, it is the only way to teach." - Albert Einstein

There is an age old saying which says, "Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime." It could be easy for us to simply put this off and tell someone to learn it on their own. the reason is that there is quite a bit one can learn by reading and absorbing the content of many good books, blogs and other resources.

But to show someone, to teach them by example goes much further.

This is not simply in the educational realm of teaching. The way you live your life, the way you conduct yourself has a huge influence on those around you. Your kids may hear you say, "pick up your clothes" but if you leave your clothes laying around, the net result is they will leave theirs laying around.

Living by example is much more powerful.

It impacts others in ways you may not have ever considered. I am not perfect in this but I do try to conduct myself to set a good example. I try to be aware that what I do is watched and learned by other. We are each human and that implies we are fallible.

It is in striving to teach others by example that sets the stage for everyone to grow to a greater life. Show others by example and impact their life. In turn your own life will grow in ways you never thought possible.

Life By Example

"Let us so live that when we come to die even the undertaker will be sorry." -Mark Twain

Kindness and gratitude to others in life is a simple thing to do. A smile to the grocery clerk, a thank you or letting someone into traffic are not so difficult. Live your life with meaning so that all will learn by your example.
