Simple

"We shall never know all the good that a simple smile can do." -Mother Teresa

After a long and extensive research, Boeing has concluded its flight attendant call button on 737 airplanes was a bad design. They have now come out with a new location for the call button.

A simple yet very effective change to an age old design issue. Some may wonder why it took so long. A simple answer that can change so many things. But many will say that life is much too complicated for simple answers. The only way to solve our problems is through complex and intricate resolutions. It isn't easy to move a button to a new location, "it is hard." I hear it in my job, the words rolling out in many different forms. But the response is usually, "that is too hard."

I understand that there are complex issues in our life. But we tend to over-complicate, over-think, and over-worry. Sometimes the answer lay in the simple. You will probably call me naive but don't get me wrong. I fully understand there are things to worry about in life. We must be good stewards of our planet, our countries, and our neighborhoods with everything that entails.

What I'm referring to is the simplicity of a smile to break the cold. A simple handshake to break down barriers. The simple act of sitting down and talking with another person can move mountains.

There will be plenty of math problems, social issues, political disagreement and unsolved mysteries of the universe. Start with a simple smile, the simple connection of two or more, the simple belief in all that is possible.

Seuss Simple

"Sometimes the questions are complicated and the answers are simple.” ~Dr. Seuss

I have been trying to figure out what to write today with very little luck. It probably didn't help that I was very busy with the work that pays the bills in our family. Sometimes the words simply do not come along.

Then something out of the blue happens. I was working on trying to find the answer to a question posed to me. I struggled for a good share of time on it and set it aside for a while. It is in those moments that I will go do something completely different. It tends to take my mind off the issue.

Typically I will research another issue or read part of a book, or even surf the web just throwing out search words. In this particular case I put up the search words "doctor seuss answers" for I figured he always had an answer for most anything. As I read through information on him, the above quote struck me as simple enough.

So I went back to the work problem and started from scratch only looking to the most basic and simple of solutions. To my delight, the solution came fairly quickly. It was also a reasonably simple solution as well.

Was it Dr. Seuss that helped me find the answer or dumb luck? I tend to think it was a matter of looking at it from a different perspective; the easy perspective. We tend to over complicate our lives and over think them. Sometimes the answer is truly simple and it's the question that we made complicated.

Try not to over complicate your life. Sometimes the best way to get past the complicated is by simply choosing not to let it be complicated. By taking the simple path you can get to your destination quicker. If a boulder sits in the way, it might be easier to walk around it rather then trying to roll it out of the way.

A Simple Life

"Go confidently in the direction of your dreams! Live the life you've imagined. As you simplify your life, the laws of the universe will be simpler." - Henry David Thoreau

I happened upon a blog post by "Wat da Wat?" during a recent trip around the Internet. The article speaks to "living the simple life" and what it means to the writer. I liked the self-reflection and search that was undertaken.

Each of us are searching for our own view of a 'simple life' as well. Those views remain different and are very personal. The idea is that you seek out the balance you want for your life. By having a better understanding of what you want in life, you will be able to discard that which isn't needed. What remains is your definition of simplicity. It all becomes clearer.

The simple life is what you make it. The same thing goes for a great life, it is what you make it. Imagine, dream and act upon what you want. Life will become much simpler as you figure it out...it always does.

Simple Things

"The best things in life are nearest: Breath in your nostrils, light in your eyes, flowers at your feet, duties at your hand, the path of right just before you. Then do not grasp at the stars, but do life's plain, common work as it comes, certain that daily duties and daily bread are the sweetest things in life."
-Robert Louis Stevenson

Life can have its fill of trouble and complication, but it is filled so much more with the simple things. I can remember my youth and imagine the youth of my parents. There were and remain those pieces to our lives that are enjoyable and loving in memory.

But those things can be found, in the modern world of today. In fifty years, those same images shown in the video will be those that you created. Simple memories, loving memories that gave your life meaning and purpose.

Enjoy the simple things of today, enjoy the simple memories of yesterday and live with joy in your heart for the 'simple things in life'.
