To Fly

The bird so high in a blue sky,

No wings flapping, moving smoothly in flight.

The trail it leaves marks a path,

From one destination to another.

To see from so high, so very high,

A world so small, its largeness so immense.

I long for a return to flight,

To see a world I thought I once knew.

From feet in the cool green grass,

Gazing to see a bird so free in flight.

Longing for the lift to let the dew release,

Seeing the curve of my earthly wonder.

My flight will return, to soar above the birds,

To feel the air beneath my feet.

Rising above the noise and chaos,

To return and nest in the comfort of a lover.

Colliding Worlds

"Collide: To strike or dash against each other; to come into collision; to clash; as, the vessels collided; their interests collided."

There are many different ways we come in contact with other people.

It could be at a grocery store, gas station, work or on the street in front of your home.

These collisions of human interaction can be great and wonderful experiences. Both people can come away with a greater view of the world around them. Each may have found a new friend or learned a new lesson to guide them further in life.

Other collisions can have tragic consequences. A misunderstanding of another persons intentions or a supposed slight. Any of these can have horrible outcomes. A serious argument, fight or worse can change the lives of two people forever.

Not only do these collisions impact the two involved. They also have a cascading effect on those near and those far from the actual collision.

These collisions can also have a positive effect if we make the right choices.

It doesn't have to end in each person losing something.

When we seem close to colliding with another, try to think what type of outcome you want. Will your interaction result in something horrible happening or will something great come from it?

Don't allow any one of these daily collisions to adversely effect your life. Create something greater from it. If that can't happen, then maybe its best just to avoid the collision if possible.

Mad World

"In the middle of a world that had always been a bit mad, the cat walks with confidence." - Rose F. Kennedy

I started the day thinking of writing about the goodness we have and comes into our life each and every day. As I thought and worked through those thoughts, I kept coming back to the words, Mad World. I kept thinking of a "feel good" article about how great the sun feels upon my face and how it can be a reflection of your attitude.

There is plenty of need for positive words in our lives.

Yet again I kept thinking about the reality of tough economic times, military personnel in action overseas, people posting articles of cynicism online and the news broadcasting shades of gray about lifes events. All of this can cause people to believe that life is at its worst.

I read the papers and watch the news. A plane disappears, a country becomes divided, people are terrorized, and a building blows up. There is so much happening around us. We lament the horrible state of things in Facebook posts and on television news commentary programs.

We never seem to appreciate what we do have, here, today.

The video in this article depicts another time in history when many felt that the worst of times were upon them. And yes, it was pretty grim and horrible. It was World War II, the feeling of it being a mad world was very evident back then. Yet the human spirit prevailed and we are here today, a little smarter and maybe a little better for it.

Life flows in waves of good and bad. History tells us that better times will come. The sun will shine again and the madness will seem to fade away. Learn that even if you feel alone in this mad world, there are others that are or have experienced the same thing. We will get through this.

Change the World

"No matter what people tell you, words and ideas can change the world." -Robin Williams

Are there ways that you can make a change in this world, ways to make things better for others and for yourself? The answer is yes and it does not require you to have millions of dollars or legions of people.

The only thing it requires is you.

Using your ears to listen closely to hear what your heart believes.

Using your eyes to see the possibility of what your heart is revealing to you.

Using your voice to speak what your heart believes in such a way that others will listen.

Using your actions to show others what your heart will do for them.

Change starts inside of you and flows outward to touch the hearts of others. Change starts with you.

A Big World

Some people see the glass half full. Others see it half empty. I see a glass that's twice as big as it needs to be.” -George Carlin

You might expect the usual discussion about a glass half full or half empty at this point. I have written that article before describing and discussing the nature of our positive or negative attitudes. But this article is not going down that path.

In fact, for those that firmly believe in predictions of the wrold ending tomorrow, December 21, 2012, time spent reading this article won't matter I suppose. It is very likely that those people will not have the time as they prepare for what may or may not happen tomorrow. They will be rushing about ensuring their "bug out" packs are ready. I truly do admire their preparedness.

For me it is interesting to think people would be worried about that specific day though. Why not worry and prepare for December 1st, April 22nd, February 3rd or any "tomorrow" day? If not an interpreted doomsday word from thousands of years ago, maybe a large meteor hitting the earth, huge earthquake or world war. Are not the odds generally the same or more likely?

Then again, I am not against being prepared in life. It is smart to plan forlife's circumstances in order to have a chance at reacting to the curves it throws at us. But I am also on the side of having expectation of good things happening. I prepare but I also allow myself to have expectation of great things to happen as opposed to the worst.

If I read the quote from George Carlin again, I begin to realize that the glass is life itself. Life is so much bigger, so much greater than I can ever imagine. It means to me that we get to choose how full we want the glass to be. For some of us that will mean only a few drops of water. Others will fill the glass with as much as they can.

The glass will always be bigger than what we need.

The World Wants You

"Like the sky opens after a rainy day we must open to ourselves.... Learn to love yourself for who you are and open so the world can see you shine." -James Poland

The week started with YOU and ends with YOU. The week was about how you are important to everyone and everything around you. You matter and that is what matters.

Once you figure out that simple basic thing, a whole new world opens up. You will have the confidence to move forward even further. And you will realize that while you do matter, it really isn't just about you. It is about how you involve yourself with that whole big world around you.

So be you; know that you matter and then spread the light which is you to those all around. See how your world grows and the world with you.
